Breaktime: Be Still

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

There is nothing better than a command telling us to be still. Nothing more needed in a hectic and loud world we live in then stillness.  God is among the noise but we have to continue practicing His presence no matter where we are.

Amid the noise, if we pay attention, God is there. So much happens every day that we are doing apart from the acknowledgment of God. It is not that He isn’t there, but He is easily ignored. This happens to us each day when we decide our way and rush through decisions without giving an account for the wisdom God wants to provide. We can quickly identify when we have stopped being still by the lack of peace and stress which immediately follows.

We are asked to be still, which starts in the restlessness of the mind. When we pause and bring our continual attention back to God we are practicing His presence. The Psalmist was in the midst of much noise and confusion, but He recognized where to go to find peace. We often try to find peace in our situation but God offers His presence in the middle of all we are going through right now. He offers Himself, but it takes practice to continue to be still when our mind is telling us otherwise. Be Still, God has something to say.
