Breaktime: Fearing Man

Fearing Man

Why should I fear when evil days come,  when wicked deceivers surround me— Psalm 49:5

His question in the Psalm is why do the wicked seem to be prospering. Like many of us, we have probably asked the same question at one time or another. He seemed to give us good advice for this age-old question and we have a choice not to fear when these days come. Even though evil seems to be surrounding us, we can be assured we are not alone.

Evil tempts to trip us up, but we walk peacefully on the road ahead. Evil may try and throw many stones in our path to try and get us to fall and the enemy may even use those closest to us to try and get us to stumble in fear. Intimidation and control may be some of the other vices the enemy may throw our way.

But the advice given to us is:

So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” Hebrews 13:6

We need to stop long enough to realize man can’t control my soul or actions− those decisions belong to us. We don’t have to fear the opinion of man or even what man can do. The Lord is with us, and the author of Hebrews says, I will not be afraid. Allow yourself the privilege of realizing the truth of this passage and walk in confidence with the Lord. We can choose to fear, or we can walk boldly and humbly with the Lord without fear as a companion. When man tries to grip you with fear, remember, you can choose the constant presence of peace.
