Breaktime: No Fear in Trust

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.  Psalm 56:3

When I am, fill in the blank, I will trust in God. What do you do with fear? It is a killing disease when allowed to run wild because it is a ruthless mental parasite.  It has no respect for a person. Most likely, our fear doesn’t make any sense and trying to speak calmness to it many times doesn’t work.

David learned fear could take over, and it is an unreasonable guide to his emotions. David, even as King, wasn’t immune to fear, but he did learn what to do. Most people struggle with some anxiety, especially in our day, but the call to relax and stay calm is on the move. God is trying to teach us there is nothing to fear, but often we have to walk through fear before we understand God is our peace.

Peace is the antidote for fear, and learning to rely on the substance is a choice. Often we try to reason with our fear instead of calming ourselves with God. Trust and fear compete for our attention, but the more we understand the nature of God, the more we can rest in His assurance. Take a moment and sit with God, who is our peace instead of sitting in your fear. Practice the presence of God and learn to meditate on His truths for your life, and you will notice one fear at a time leaving. Peace may not be found in the situation, but God walking with you through each case will bring you peace.
