Breaktime: Sacrifices that Matter

      Sacrifices that Matter
I bring no charges against you concerning your sacrifices or concerning your burnt offerings, which are ever before me. Psalm 50:8

It wasn’t what the people brought before God that was bothering God. As we will see, it was their heart that was distant from God. They were making the sacrifice, but that isn’t what God was looking for.

Could it be the same with? We bring our sacrifices before God but have a distant heart? We might be doing all the right things with God but have a distant heart. We may be faithful at reading the Word, attending church, even giving all we possess to the poor, but we are bankrupt on love. Well, what does Paul say,

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. I Corinthians 13:1-3

The sacrifice is our heart because we can do many things for God but for all the wrong reasons. We can be disconnected from God and still be in service for God. We can even be making a lot of noise for God but remain distant from the heart of God. We need not fear to grow close to God for its time to sacrifice our heart even if it costs us our ego.
