Breaktime: Thankfulness and Change

“Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, Psalm 50:14

Life can be stressful enough, no doubt, without adding one more thing we need to sacrifice. Many of us give much of our time to the place of exhaustion. We give of our talents until reaching the place where we are empty. We offer of our heart until there is nothing left and give of our mind until we can’t think anymore. But now we need to sacrifice one more thing? Can any of us handle one more thing to do?

This sacrifice though the Psalmist is writing about, is precisely the offering that gives back. Thankfulness is what changes perspective. It turns a cynical heart to a warm thankful heart. Expressing gratitude is fulfillment to the Highest, and we are changed when we express thankfulness for it changes the way we see life. It humbles the heart to live in God’s world, not God living in our world.

When we understand this is God’s world, and we are just living in it, we can be thankful. We no longer live with the spirit of entitlement, thinking God or anyone else for that matter owes us. But we understand this is all God’s world and we live being thankful in God’s world. We can start today by allowing ourselves to process all we have in our life which is God’s. We can begin by expressing a simple act of praise, not wanting anything in return.
