Hearing

Hear this, all you peoples; listen, all who live in this world, both low and high, rich and poor alike:   Psalm 49:1,2

The Psalmist invites all who live in the world to listen to the timely message he was about to give. There is no unique or separate social class for listening and obedience for listening to God is not determined by wealth but by surrender.

We all have been given the opportunity to stop and listen to the timely messages of the Lord. Each time we open the Word of God, we are giving ourselves the occasion to listen. The listening the Psalmist is speaking of is following through with obedience to each of the teachings the Bible presents.

Our role is to be willing to learn. We don’t ever reach a place where we have outlearned God, and if we think we have, we have stopped growing. God continually teaches those who are willing to listen, but it takes more than hearing, although this is the first step, learning takes surrendering to God. Unity is hearing and then applying the truth of what we hear.
