Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the Lord delivers them in times of trouble. Psalm 41:1
David found himself in a weakened state of health. He knew that whoever came to his rescue would be blessed. It is challenging to name David’s weakness, but his words remind us that we are blessed when we attend to the needs of the world.
Our days are filled with opportunities to show mercy, but do we pay attention? If we don’t pay attention, we may miss an occasion to help some. Do we see the needs of those around us?
The Lord delivers those who are needy and found despairing. It could be God wants to work through us to reach out with help. Jesus says it so well.
“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy” Matthew 5:7
The truth is when we pass by and see a need; it is our turn to step in. The need could be an ear to listen, a material need, a smile, a forgiving heart, an act of kindness, a helping hand, to be noticed, or nourishment. The most obvious thing to do is to pray and ask God what our role is. Compassion is an action. Will we respond?
